In February 2014 the Modern Grass released City Ghosts, the highly anticipated follow up to their award winning album High on the Mountain. City Ghosts is a reminder of the group's dynamic nature and their uncanny ability to navigate space, time and a plethora of musical genres, uninterrupted.
City Ghosts features the mandolin playing of Joe Walsh as well as Wes Corbett on banjo.
The Modern Grass continue to emphasize the importance of contrast both musically and lyrically. Hard driving bluegrass flows into tender ballads, groovy blues, and dramatic instrumentals. Accompanied by earnest social commentary, introspective songs of love and loss, and raw poetry; City Ghosts is modern and nostalgic, refined yet organic, chaotic but soothing
The fall is nearly here. Yesterday I saw a lone tree all rainbowed, leaves changing. It has been a swell summer for The Modern Grass. The band has been busy roaming around the maritimes and beyond. After three amazing weeks on the road The MG is happy to be home in Nova Scotia. A big thanks to all the new friends and fans from the West Coast who helped make our tour one of the best. Some highlights were rattlesnake hunting and fresh lemons (in February) in California, bar fires and the high desert in Oregon, 72 hours of straight pickin at Wintergrass and we even got to share a bill with Tim O'brien and Darrell Scott.

Alberta! We made it safely through the gulf islands and rambled north through BC and Picked up our favirote Newfoundlander Matt Hornell who will be performing with us all across Canada. The West coast showed us some mighty fine sights and the people were incredible...Last week we headed south through the rockies and landed in twin butte Alberta where we played and stayed with Jenny and Phil at the Twin Butte general Store. There is no place like Twin Butte, it is a must see and we will be back again and again if they'll have us. Got a chance to fly fish in the Waterton river with the sun rising and the mountains jutting up like razorblades in a big old prarie sky, and pulled in beautiful brown trout...We are currently in Calgary after a hoedown with the bitterweed draw in Olds, AB. We'll be heading south to lethbridge for a couple dates and hanging around Alberta until South Country Fair next weekend before heading East on the road home! Check the gallery for new photos from the tour and the gigs section for some gig updates. Giddyup!
